Chris Birdsall made 24 saves as the Youngstown Phantoms shutout the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-0 at Young Arena Saturday evening.
The result was Youngstown’s 16th consecutive victory.
The Phantoms made the most of the only power play during the first period; James Winkler cashed in on a rebound 5:01 into the game, scoring from below the hash marks. Josh Nenadal added to the lead at 13:28, stepping across the blue line to snap a wrist shot to the top corner.
Youngstown didn’t waste time adding to their lead in the second. Fifty-seven seconds into the frame, Ryan Lomberg capitalized from close range when a puck came bouncing to him off the end wall.
Kyle Connor helped make sure Waterloo would not recover in the third, swiping the puck behind the Hawks’ net and wrapping around a shorthanded goal at 3:28.
Waterloo has nearly a week off before their next contest – the final road game of the season – on Friday versus the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup matchup down river is scheduled to begin at 7:05.
