Deal Follows Strong Season in San Antonio
The Florida Panthers announced Thursday that the club has agreed to terms with former Waterloo Black Hawks forward Brett Olson on a one-year, two-way contract for the 2015/16 season.
Olson, 28, appeared in 76 games for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League during the 2014/15 season, recording an AHL career-best 45 points (14 goals, 31 assists), while finishing fourth among the team’s scoring leaders. The Superior, Wisconsin, native has played in 221 AHL games during his professional career, tallying 107 points.
From 2005/06 to 2007/08, Olson was a Black Hawk, serving as captain during his final season. He was a member of the club’s 2006/07 Anderson Cup championship squad and helped Waterloo reach the Clark Cup Finals twice. Individually, Olson recorded 35 goals and 55 assists in 145 regular season games for Waterloo. He added another 17 points in 20 United States Hockey League postseason appearances.
Between the USHL and the pros, Olson played four seasons at Michigan Tech University, wearing the captain’s “C” in the 2011/12 season. During that senior campaign at Michigan Tech, Olson led the Huskies in scoring and over his NCAA career he played in 127 games, notching 42 goals and 51 assists.
