Pick Your Player, Choose Your Charity
After one 2015/16 Waterloo Black Hawks home game, Cameron Orchard leads the voting for the Slumberland Furniture Fan’s Choice Player of the Year Award, pursued closely by Liam Pecararo and Ryley Risling.
Help make sure your favorite Hawk forward, defenseman, or goalie has a chance to claim the honor by casting your vote this Saturday when Waterloo hosts the Fargo Force at Young Arena, or during any other home game. Your dollar is your ballot to help select the Slumberland Furniture Fan’s Choice Player of the Year, and unlike most elections, voting early and often is encouraged. Since 2006, donations from Waterloo Black Hawks fans have helped good causes through the program.
Last season, the Slumberland Furniture Fans Choice Player of the Year fund included over $2,300 by the end of the season. Fans also took advantage of the opportunity to tell the team which local non-profit groups they believed should receive a portion of the proceeds. The money stayed in the Cedar Valley and was donated to the Iowa Chairiots Wheelchair basketball team, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Alternatives Pregnancy Center, the Boys & Girl’s Club, and the Cedar Bend Humane Society. Forward Henrik Rommel was selected as the 2014/15 Slumblerland Furniture Fan’s Choice Player of the Year.
Once again this season, the Slumberland Furniture Fan’s Choice Player of the Year ballot box will be located across from the Express Employment Professionals Fan Service Table near the top of Section D at Young Arena. The winning player will be announced during the Hawks’ Awards Banquet in the spring of 2016.
