Schultz, Davies Choose Schools

Forward and Defenseman Go East and West

First-year Waterloo Black Hawks players Michael Davies and Brandon Schultz have each made commitments to NCAA Division I universities.

Davies will attend the University of Denver, while Schultz has been recruited by Northeastern University.  Waterloo’s ties to the Pioneers’ program include current freshman defenseman Blake Hillman, who skated with the Hawks last season, as well as sharing the ice with Davies while the two played for the Dubuque Fighting Saints.  Meanwhile, the Huskies have former Waterloo defenseman Trevor Owens on their roster; Owens played in the Cedar Valley during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.

In his second USHL campaign, Davies has appeared in all 11 USHL games.  He has notched one assist; his 28 shots on goal tie for fourth among league defensemen and are third-most among the Black Hawks.  With the Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2014/15, Davies accumulated four goals and ten assists in 52 games.  The 18-year-old is a native of St. Louis.

Schultz delivered his second goal as a member of the Black Hawks Friday against the Sioux Falls Stampede.  He is currently tied for the team lead with nine points (two goals, seven assists) and has played in every Waterloo contest.  Schultz is also +2.  Last winter, he was among the leaders in several statistical categories for the Janesville Jets of the North American Hockey League.  The 19-year-old hails from Estero, Florida.

Davies and Schultz are now among 17 current Black Hawks committed to NCAA Division I colleges.

Schultz, Davies, and the rest of the Black Hawks take the ice this evening against the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m.  Good seats are still available for the matchup and can be ordered by calling the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
