Will Represent U.S. in August
Mikey Anderson will compete at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memoria Cup Tournament in Czech Republic and Slovakia after appearing in 57 of the Waterloo Black Hawks’ 60 United States Hockey League games as a 16-year-old rookie last season, USA Hockey announced Thursday.
The tournament for players under age 18 will begin August 8th.
Anderson completed the 2015/16 slate as Waterloo’s second-leading rookie scorer recording a goal and 16 assists in regular season play. He also earned a +6 plus/minus differential. The University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldog recruit’s offense ballooned during the postseason. In nine playoff games, Anderson accumulated three goals and two assists.
In August of 2015, Team USA finished fifth in the eight team competition. Black Hawks Sam Rossini and Garrett Wait both represented the country during the event. A year earlier in 2014, current Waterloo forward Nick Swaney traveled across the Atlantic for the competition.
The United States will meet Finland, Switzerland and Czech Republic during the preliminary round of the event. Teams from Canada, Russia, Sweden, and Slovakia will also vie for the cup.
