1650 The Fan to Carry Hawks Games

The United States Hockey League spans more than 1,000 miles and two time zones; no matter where in that range the Waterloo Black Hawks find themselves, 1650 (AM), The Fan will be there during the 2016/17 season.

Friday, the Hawks announced an extension of the relationship with the team’s long-standing radio play-by-play partner.  Listeners will be able to follow all 60 regular season games, plus playoffs, over the airwaves and online at 1650thefan.com.

“Last season, staff at The Fan presented us with some solutions to improve our broadcast quality, and the changes helped us achieve a network-like sound,” said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene.  “I would like to thank Jim Coloff, Bob Foster, and their entire team and look forward to continuing this relationship.”

Each game broadcast will begin with a 20-minute pregame show, and conclude with postgame coverage which runs down game details and league results. The 1650 signal reaches a 20 county area of northeast Iowa.  A limited number of broadcasts will be carried on Cruisin’ KCFI (105.1-FM and 1250-AM).  For specific game broadcast details, visit 1650thefan.com.  Listeners outside the regular station radius can also find free audio streaming of games on the 1650 website by clicking on the “Listen Live” link.

“The Black Hawks have been successful for more than 50 years because of their commitment to the community,” noted Coloff, KCNZ Owner and General Manager.  “Working with an organization which means so much to the people of the Cedar Valley is an opportunity we are passionate about; we are among the Black Hawks’ biggest fans and know 2016/17 will be a season to remember.”

Listeners can also get the latest on the team and the USHL every day during the season.  Tuesday through Thursday listen for “Black Hawks Minute” features, spotlighting players and coaches.  Mondays and Fridays, hear recaps and previews respectively of the entire United States Hockey League weekend schedule.

The first Black Hawks broadcast of the season will air Saturday, September 24th when Waterloo meets the Des Moines Buccaneers.
