The Coats for Kids drive originally scheduled for Young Arena on Saturday morning has been canceled due to the threat of flooding on Saturday morning. Please donate coats at the Waterloo or Cedar Falls Public Libraries during business hours.
Saturday is the first day of hockey season, but before there is a chill in the air, the Waterloo Black Hawks encourage you to donate the old coats and jackets in the back of your closet to kids in need.
While Waterloo players prepare to travel to Des Moines Saturday for the first game of the 2016/17 season, the Black Hawks, News/Talk 1540 KXEL, and KCRG TV9 will host a Coats for Kids drive in the Young Arena lobby. Coats of all sizes will be accepted from 8-11 a.m. TV9 will broadcast from the event between 8 and 9 a.m., and tune in for updates throughout the morning on News/Talk 1540 KXEL.
Collected coats will be laundered and redistributed to kids throughout eastern Iowa.
Anyone donating a coat will have the opportunity to purchase buy-one-get-one-free tickets for the Hawks’ home opener on Saturday, October 8th versus the Lincoln Stars and will receive a News/Talk 1540 KXEL keychain.
