Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.
#3 – David Cotton
Boston College • Forward
With the Eagles just up the road from Waterloo facing the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison, Cotton recorded the first multipoint performance of his NCAA career. The Carolina Hurricanes draft pick tallied a goal and two assists during an 8-5 BC victory. Cotton assisted on the game-winning goal. Through four games as a college player, Cotton has four points; during the second matchup of the season on October 8th, he had scored the winner against Denver during a 3-1 decision.
#2 – Zach Sanford
Washington Capitals • Forward
Sanford made his National Hockey League debut for the Washington Capitals last Thursday, facing the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. He enjoyed steady playing time during the 3-2 shootout loss, skating for over 14 minutes. Sanford is the first former Black Hawk to debut on opening night for his NHL team since Craig Smith made the Nashville Predators’ roster in 2011. Saturday, Sanford and the Capitals celebrated a 2-1 home win against the New York Islanders.
#1 – Joe Pavelski
San Jose Sharks • Forward
The Sharks have opened the season 3-1-0 and San Jose’s captain has been a big reason why. Tuesday, Pavelski scored a late game-winner against the New York Islanders, boosting the Sharks to a 3-2 victory. Also in New York the night before, he had a hand in all four San Jose goals during a 7-4 loss to the Rangers. The second of his three assists was the 300th of his NHL career. In the early season, he has already accumulated six points.
