Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.
#3 – Tom Novak
Minnesota Gophers (NCAA) • Forward
The sophomore made contributions during two positive Gopher results against the defending national champions from North Dakota. Friday, Novak recorded two goals and an assist during a 5-5 tie. Two of his three points came during power play situations. The next night, Novak notched another power play assist on the goal which proved to be the game-winner during a 2-0 affair. So far this season, he has recorded eight points in eight games.
#2 – Vince LoVerde
Ontario Reign (AHL) • Defenseman
LoVerde doubled his early-season goal total last Friday, scoring both goals against the Tucson Roadrunners during a 3-2 loss. The Ontario captain was still +1 during the game and for the weekend. LoVerde’s four goals are among the most by AHL defensemen early this season. He is likely to appear in his 250th AHL regular season game this weekend.
#1 – Drew Melanson
RPI Engineers (NCAA) • Forward
With RPI in the midst of conference play, Melanson helped the Engineers to their first ECAC win Friday versus Brown. He scored the first goal of the night against the Bears during the late stages of the second period. Then in the final minute, he put the game to bed with an empty-netter. Facing Yale the following evening, Melanson again struck for the first goal of the game, but this time the Engineers could not hold on; the Bulldogs got the equalizer with an extra attacker before winning, 3-2 in overtime. Melanson has four goals and two assists in nine games.
