Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.
#3 – Jacob MacDonald
Toledo Walleye (ECHL) • Defenseman
Named the ECHL’s top player this week, MacDonald contributed a point in all three Walleye games, beginning last Friday. That was the first of three straight on the road against the Alaska Aces. Not only did MacDonald assist on the opening goal, he also converted the winning shootout opportunity during the tenth round of the 4-3 win. He notched another assist during the middle game, then had a goal and an assist in the final meeting Sunday as the Walleye recovered from a 4-1 deficit to claim a 5-4 victory. MacDonald has 21 points in 22 appearances during his second full professional season.
#2 – Justin Kloos
Minnesota Gophers (NCAA) • Forward
The Minnesota Gophers scored eight goals during two Big Ten wins last weekend against the Michigan State Spartans. Kloos had a hand in five of them, scoring one and assisting on four others. Both wins came by final scores of 4-2. Minnesota’s senior captain now has a dozen points in his last seven games (all but three of those have been on even strength). During his college hockey career, Kloos has played in 64 games against Big Ten rivals; he has recorded 67 points in those contests.
#1 – Zach Sanford
Hershey Bears (AHL) • Forward
Sanford was recently assigned to the Hershey Bears, and in his short time in the American Hockey League, he has made quite an impression. Friday was his fourth appearance for the squad. Sanford assisted on the opening goal, then scored the winner during a 5-2 decision against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Sunday, the Bears battered the Rochester Americans, 6-1. Sanford had two goals (one on the power play, the other shorthanded), plus two assists. The outburst gives him seven points in six AHL games, tying him already as the Bears’ top rookie scorer.
