Alumni Three Stars of the Week: February 23rd

Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.

#3 – Ian McCoshen
Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) • Defenseman

McCoshen had a positive plus/minus differential during all three of Springfield’s games last weekend.  Friday he set up the first goal during a 5-2 victory against the Utica Comets.  Saturday, he added another assist on the third period goal which made the score 2-1 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins; that ended up being the final count.  Although he did not record a point Sunday during a win against the Hartford Wolfpack, McCoshen was +2 and finished the weekend +4.  Five of his ten points this season have been recorded in February.

#2 – Nick Sorkin
Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) • Forward

Playing three games in four days, Sorkin scored twice and racked up three assists.  His big night was Saturday when he tallied three points versus the Kalamazoo Wings.  Wheeling needed all of that offense to pick up a 5-4 win as the teams exchanged goals all evening.  Sorkin’s second season in professional hockey has included 13 goals and 29 assists in 42 ECHL appearances.  He also made a handful of appearances for the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.

#1 – Rem Pitlick
Minnesota Gophers (NCAA) • Forward

With a hand in six of ten Minnesota goals, Pitlick helped the Gophers to a pair of Big Ten wins on the road against Penn State.  The freshman contributed a hat trick on a four-point night Friday as Minnesota prevailed, 6-3.  During the rematch, he scored the winning goal in overtime to lift the program to a 4-3 decision.  The surge accounts for more than a quarter of Pitlick’s scoring for the Gophers this season; he had entered the weekend with six goals and 11 assists.

Peter MacArthur, Adirondack Thunder (ECHL): 3 GP, 2 G, 1 A, 3 Pts, +2
