Alumni Three Stars of the Week: March 15th

Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.

#3 – Ian McCoshen
Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) • Defenseman

In each of three appearances last week, McCoshen notched an assist.  He also scored a goal last Saturday against the Hersey Bears to contribute four total points as the Thunderbirds won three times in three days.  The defenseman was a solid +6 during the busy weekend.  The spree boosted McCoshen’s season point total to 15 (four goals, 11 assists) and his plus/minus differential to +16.  In his first professional season, McCoshen has surged since the beginning of February with 10 points and a +10 differential.

#2 – Cal Petersen
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (NCAA) • Goalie

Petersen made a significant contribution to the Irish’s Hockey East Tournament series sweep of Providence.  In goal for both games, the junior turned away all 43 shots on Friday during a 5-0 victory, his sixth shutout of the season.  Saturday, Petersen finished off the Friars with 28 saves during a 5-2 decision.  For good measure, he also recorded an assist during the weekend.  Over the course of the year, Petersen has stopped 93% of the shots he has faced while posting a 21-10-5 record.

#1 – Joe Pavelski
San Jose Sharks (NHL) • Forward

San Jose won three of four games last week.  The Sharks captain led the way with five goals and an assist in that time.  Pavelski’s performances on Sunday and Tuesday, against the Dallas Stars and Buffalo Sabres respectively, included two goals apiece.  Three of his last five appearances have now included multiple goals.  Pavelski now leads the team with 28 goals and ranks second with 63 points.  San Jose has climbed to the top of the Pacific Division with a nine point lead.
