Alumni Three Stars of the Week: March 1st

Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.

#3 – Stephon Williams
Missouri Mavericks (ECHL) • Goaltender

The Tulsa Oilers threw everything at Williams on Sunday, and the Alaskan netminder turned away nearly all of their shots during a win in his only start of the weekend.  Missouri prevailed 4-1 behind 42 saves from Williams.  He was busiest during the third period when he stopped 18 of 19 opposing shots.  Coincidentally, Jay Williams – who Waterloo traded to Sioux Falls in order to acquire Stephon Williams in 2012 – was the backup goalie for the opposing team.

#2 – Brandon Montour
San Diego Gulls (AHL) • Defenseman

Since being reassigned to San Diego by the Anaheim Ducks last week, Montour has three points during two AHL appearances.  San Diego won both games.  Hosting the Rockford IceHogs Saturday, Montour scored during the opening period, helping the Gulls to a 3-2 decision.  Tuesday in Tucson, he assisted on a pair of goals: one proved to be the game-winner, and the other was notched by fellow Waterloo alumnus Jordan Samuels-Thomas.  Montour finished the weekend +5.

#1 – Joe Pavelski
San Jose Sharks (NHL) • Forward

Pavelski delivered sturdy efforts during a pair of San Jose wins.  The team returned to the ice after a five-day layoff on Saturday and defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 4-1.  San Jose’s captain assisted on a late goal.  Back south of the border whiel facing the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, Pavelski contributed a goal and an assist against Toronto.  He was also +2 during the two-game span.  He now needs just five goals, assists, or a combination of the two to have 60 points in a season for the sixth time in his NHL career.

Honorable Mention
Phil Beaulieu, Northern Michigan Wildcats (NCAA): 3 GP, 3 A, 3 Pts
C.J. Motte, Quad City Mallards (ECHL): 1 GP, 1-0-0, 31 SV, 4 GA
Patrick Russell, Bakersfield Condors (AHL): 3 GP, 1 G, 1 A, 2 Pts, +1
