Postgame Recap: Hawks Cheer Miraculous Miura

Yuki Miura capitalized on Bailey Conger’s setup 6:47 into overtime to lift the Waterloo Black Hawks past the Sioux City Musketeers, 2-1, during a USHL Western Conference Final Series matchup Sunday at Tyson Events Center.

The Game Two victory ties the best-of-five series at one win apiece.

Deadlocked at 1-1 since the opening period, Conger forced a turnover behind the Sioux City net and dropped a pass back to Miura at the top of the left circle. Miura’s shot glanced off a defender and over the shoulder of Matiss Kivlenieks, setting off an exuberant celebration on the Waterloo bench.

During scoreless second and third periods, Sioux City outshot Waterloo 19-15, but in the overtime the Hawks had six chances to four. Robbie Beydoun made 30 saves for the win; Kivlenieks absorbed the defeat despite 33 saves.

Sioux City had converted a power play for the game’s opening score at 3:52. Mason Palmer saved a goal by fishing the disc off the goal line, and then ran into the net, which was dislodged. Jacob Wilson found the loose puck below the right circle, and even though the cage was off its moorings, put his shot between the pipes for a goal which was allowed to stand.

Alex Limoges tied the score at 8:37. Limoges created a takeaway at center, and Emil Ohrvall came across the blue line with a shot which popped away from Kivlenieks. Limoges pounced, pulling the puck to his left and slipping it past the sprawling netminder.

The Hawks and Musketeers meet for Game Three at Young Arena on Friday. Tickets are on sale now from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office Monday at (319) 291-7680.
