Defenseman Selected in 2nd Round

Samberg Finished Season with Waterloo

The Winnipeg Jets used a second round pick to select defensemen Dylan Samberg on the second day of the 2017 National Hockey League Draft in Chicago.

He was selected with the 43rd overall pick.

Samberg is the first Waterloo player drafted by the Jets organization since they moved to Winnipeg.  When the club was known as the Atlanta Thrashers, they chose Black Hawks forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas during the 2009 draft.

Samberg joined the Black Hawks during the closing weeks of the 2016/17 United States Hockey League regular season. He skated in a half dozen regular season games and all eight of Waterloo’s playoff contests.  Combining those 14 appearances, Samberg recorded two goals and three assists.

In 2017/18, the Hermantown, Minnesota, native will play in the NCAA for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.

Samberg’s 2016/17 Black Hawks teammate Shane Bowers was chosen during the first round of this year’s draft at the United Center by the Ottawa Senators.
